ADMISSIONS TO NKETNS – TRANSITIONAL ARRANGEMENTS
Because of the partial commencement of the Education (Admissions to School) Act (2018), we are in a transitional phase with regard to our admissions policy until September 2020.
With effect from 1st February 2020 we are no longer permitted to add names to our pre-enrolment lists for school year 2020-2021 and beyond.
Educate Together are awaiting the publication of template enrolment policies by the Department of Education and Skills. When these template policies issue, ET will then advise schools under their patronage (such as NKETNS) of what to do to update their admissions policy in line with the new legislation.
This revised admissions policy will then be published on the school website in September 2020.
If you placed your child’s name on a pre-enrolment list with NKETNS up to and including the school year 2023-2024, don’t worry; these pre-enrolment lists will still remain valid when the new policy comes in.
In effect, we will be running two admissions policies side by side for a number of years and children whose names are already on pre-enrolment lists will be processed under the normal first-come first-served rules as before. It is only after we have reached the end of the names on a pre-enrolment list that we will go to the new policy to fill any remaining places.
There is no change for the coming school year (2020-2021). We will be going down through the pre-enrolment list and offering places on a first-come first-served basis as we have always done.
If you wish to place your child on a waiting list for a place in a class other than Junior Infants, please contact the school.
Further information will be posted here as it becomes available from the Department of Education and Skills and from Educate Together.
2. Enrolment Policy for Outreach Classes
As of 1st February 2020 we are precluded from accepting any further applications for our Outreach classes until the new admissions policy mandated by the Education (Admissions to School) Act 2018 has been put in place.
