Draft Admissions Policy for Parents

The Education (Admission to Schools) Act was passed by the Oireachtas in 2018 and certain sections of the Act were commenced earlier this year.

One of the consequences of this is that all schools have to draft a new admissions policy which is in line with the Act by September 2020.

Educate Together produced a template policy for all schools under ET patronage to follow and the Board has prepared a draft policy using this template. You can download this draft policy here: NKETNS Draft Admissions Policy for website

There are two main changes for NKETNS as a result of the new Act. The first is that first-come-first-served which has been our enrolment mechanism since the school’s foundation is being phased out. However, any child whose name was placed on a waiting list prior to 1st February 2020 will have that place on the waiting list honoured so if you put your child’s name down, don’t worry.

The second is that the new admissions policy will include priority for children who have siblings enrolled in the school at the time of their application. This is now Educate Together policy for all ET schools.

If you have any comments on the draft policy you can email them to office@nketns.ie and the Board will consider them before forwarding the draft policy to ET for approval. The deadline for such submissions is Wednesday 15th April.
