5th Class

After studying pointillism and the artist Seurat, we used tiny dots to paint lizards.
5th class made their own brochures about their many caitheamh aimsire.

Áine’s 5th class designed these characters/costumes with Karina. They considered the colour and texture of the fabric when planning their designs.

Áine’s 5th Class made their own “Mr Men” stories to read to Junior Infants.
They linked their art with their literacy project and made pop art based on Andy Warhol’s Art.

Here’s a few pictures of some work Áine’s 5th class completed based on the Winter Olympics Beijing 2022. We had a great time writing poetry and using fabric and fibre to create Winter Olympians! We even practised some of the skills they use in PE this month!

Cathy’s 5th class designed new kits for the Winter Olympians using a mixture of fabrics. They enjoyed writing Winter Olympics inspired poetry, using metaphors to create lovely images.

Here are our Greek Jugs we created by Áine’s 5th class. We modelled them on Greek Jugs from 1000-700BC. We also read the Greek myth Pandora’s box and wrote our own versions using Greek gods from Greek mythology.
We used oil pastels to create a base and painted a black wash on top.
We scratched in geometric patterns.
5th class have been learning about native irish animal in class. Here is our art lesson linked to this. We printed the background using marker wash technique.
Aoibhín’s class created pictures of David Attenborough using paints mixed together to create different tones and colours.

Aoibhín’s class also created comics for different values from our learn together over the past two weeks. Our comics are our values such as peace, honesty, respect and love in action which the children designed and created in pod groups and some created compliment poster they think children their age would like to hear for example: you’re a good friend or you have a very good sense of humour.

Áine’s class have been learning about the Learn Together values like respect, love, peace, etc. They studied environmental climate change activists like Greta Thunberg who show good examples of those values. They made a list of all the things we can do to slow down climate change. They painted missing pieces that they had cut out of Greta’s portrait as they were learning how to paint from observation. Check out how similar the painted parts are to the real thing! They made their teacher very proud!
We learnt about the harvest celebration of Thanksgiving in both 5th classes. We read a story from Chief Swamp of the Iroquois Native American Tribe about being thankful to earth. Then we wrote what we were thankful for on leaves we created . We studied the tones in leaves from our environment and tried to recreate them as best we could.

5th Class have been working so hard on their Mini Scientist Projects. They have been creating their report books with all different information and setting up 3D models or experimenting with our scientific approach.

They have also been working a lot on Bia for Gaeilge and they created their own recipes as Gaeilge.

These drawings are of our learning of Derrybeg Farm. We had the pleasure of learning all about Derrybeg from an interview with a farmer working there. Our class drew images from imagination of all the wonderful crop grown and their interpretations of a day in the life of a farmer.

We made predictions for our class novel Under the Hawthorn Tree. We predicted the plot, setting, genre and tone of the novel before once again drawing from imagination of the setting for Under the Hawthorn Tree. We really enjoyed describing our predictions in groups and drawing the settings once we had read some of Under the Hawthorn Tree.
