Seachtain na Gaeilge

Seachtain na Gaeilge is a brilliant opportunity for parents, teachers and students to engage in speaking Irish. It does not matter what standard of Irish you may have, it only matters that you make an effort. This year, it is great to have Seachtain na Gaeilge events back.

Reachtáileadh Seachtain na Gaeilge ó 7u – 16u Márta 2022. Bhí atmaisféar croiúil spraiúil le brath thart timpeall na scoile agus bhain chuile dhuine an-chuid taitimh as! Children trying their best to use their cúpla focal were rewarded with seamróga/shamrocks that they could spend in the Siopa.
The siopa came three times a week with siopadóirí from Rang a 5 agus Rang a 6.

Songs and Poems were recited over the intercom daily on Radió NKETNS.

A highlight of the week was the Céilí in the hall. We are very fortunate to have Rita come to NKETNS each year for Seachtain na Gaeilge and give each class a dancing session.

Tóraíocht Taisce/Scavenger Hunt was organised for Outreach – 2nd in our sensory garden. 3rd to 6th Class had their hunt around the school building.

Some classes got together with other classes for Trath na gCeist – quiz comprised of mixed teams of classes. Teams competed for duaiseanna/prizes. Here are some of the questions.

Fifth Class 1 were out and about looking for pictures of Gaeilge i ngach áit!

We finished off the week with ‘Lá Glas’ where students were encouraged to wear something green to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge. The weather forecast was good so we had the entire school together outside in the yard for our Lá Glas parade. This was our first time to do this since 2019 so it’s something we all really enjoyed. Each class went around to yard to show off their éadaí glas. Then the whole school did the Hocaí Pocaí together.

A huge thank you to teacher Cathy for organising such a fun and successful week which celebrated our beautiful language.  Bhí seachtaine iontach againn agus comhghairdeas mór le gach duine a ghlac páirt!
